Christine Diaz has been named chief education officer. In this role she will guide the educational strategy for the network’s 15 public charter schools.  Diaz, who has more than 15 years of leadership experience in Chicago schools and a proven track record in achieving academic gains, joined Acero Schools earlier this summer as managing director of student achievement. Prior to that, she served as principal of Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy.

“Christine’s belief in the power of literacy as a catalyst for change fits very well with our mission-driven approach to education,” said Acero Schools CEO Richard L. Rodriguez.  “She is deeply committed to developing others in order to increase educational and economic equity for the communities she serves. We’re excited about the passion and energy she brings to this role.”

Diaz earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, and worked as an engineer before shifting to a career in teaching and educational leadership.  She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and also completed the New Leaders for New Schools’ rigorous principal preparation program. Mrs. Diaz is also currently a Surge Institute fellow.

Diaz assumes the role previously held by Joel Pollack, who is stepping down from his position to pursue a new professional opportunity.
